Zimbabwe Visa Requirements to See the Rock Art of Matobo Hills

February 21st, 2011
If you visit this week's featured UNESCO World Heritage Site, you'll see some of the most incredible rock art in all of Africa. The Matobo Hills of Zimbabwe have been inhabited for many thousands of years, since well before the dawn of agriculture. The area's distinctive boulders and caves form natural shelters that humans have long taken advantage of. The name Matobo means "Bald Heads" in the language of the Ndebele people. According to the World Heritage website, "The Matobo Hills has one of the highest concentrations of rock art in Southern Africa. The rich evidence from archaeology and from the rock paintings at Matobo provide a very full picture of the lives of foraging societies in the Stone Age and the way agricultural societies came to replace them." Zimbabwe Visa Requirements for a Safari in Mana Pools National Park

November 7th, 2010
This week's featured UNESCO World Heritage Site is Mana Pools National Park,  the most famous wildlife park in Zimbabwe. Zimbabwe Visa Requirements to See Great Zimbabwe

October 8th, 2010
Long ago in ancient Africa, the Shona people constructed a great city out of stone. Built over a period of 300 years, from the 11th century to the 14th, the Shona built elaborate buildings and rock walls over 5 meters high, without even using mortar to hold the individual stones together. This was Great Zimbabwe, the center of the kingdom of Zimbabwe and a major trading post for gold, salt and other valuables. And while it was abandoned for unknown reasons after the 14th century, its ruins still remain. Attractive to visitors and archaeologists alike, the site was named a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1987. Per the UNESCO web site: "The ruins of Great Zimbabwe – the capital of the Queen of Sheba, according to an age-old legend – are a unique testimony to the Bantu civilization

Zimbabwe Visa Requirements for Tourists

April 4th, 2010
Due to a repressive government and general political instability, tourism in Zimbabwe has dropped significantly since its high point in the 1990's. According to Wikipedia, from 1999 to the year 2000, the number of foreign tourists visiting Zimbabwe dropped 75%. The US Department of State notes that "much of country's infrastructure has collapsed, and Americans should carefully evaluate the decision to travel to Zimbabwe at this time." However, Zimbabwe does have many fascinating tourist destinations, including ancient cultural sites and amazing game parks.  For example, you can visit the impressive stone structures of Great Zimbabwe, or wander around Mana Pools National Park, the only African game park that currently allows unguided hiking.  Although, considering the park is home t
