American citizens are required to have a Kyrgyzstan visa to enter the country. You can apply on arrival, but it’s best to do so in advance, especially if you need a multiple-entry visa (which you might for these tours, as the area is near the border with Uzbekistan and Tajikistan).
Here’s what you’ll need:
- 1 Kyrgyzstan visa application form
- 1 passport-sized photo of yourself
- Your US passport, which must be valid and have at least 1 empty page in the back.
- If you need a multiple entry visa, you must also submit a visa support letter from the Minister of Foreign Affairs.
In addition to your Kyrgyzstan visa, you will likely need other visas as well. For example, visas are required if you are crossing into Uzbek or Tajik territory. Also, there are no direct flights into Kyrgyzstan, so you’ll need the appropriate visas to stop in either Russia or Kazakhstan.
